Burj Khalifa is the tallest artificial structure in the world, standing at 829.8 m. The building opened in 2010, as part of the new development called Downtown Dubai. It is located just adjacent to the Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping mall in the world. Downtown Dubai also has the Fountain show as a major tourist attraction. The Dubai Fountain is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, at the center of the Downtown Dubai.
If you visit Burj Khalifa, you can purchase tickets to At The Top Level 124 (prime hours rate AED 200, non-prime hours AED 125) or At The Top Sky Level 125+148 (prime hours rate AED 500, non-prime hours AED 350). I purchased the tickets to At The Top Level 124 and the view from the top was breathtaking. The most striking part of the visit was the super fast elevators which took less than 1 minute to climb up 125 floors! From the observation deck on the 124th level, one can see the view of the whole city. As I visited it post sunset, I witnessed the whole city lit up. The view was mesmerizing.
Burj Khalifa tower was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), who also designed the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) in Chicago and the new One World Trade Center in New York City. Burj Khalifa uses the bundled tube design of the Willis Tower, invented by Fazlur Rahman Khan.
Dubai mall is so huge that you will need a map to traverse through it. There is the World’s largest Aquarium inside Dubai Mall, an artificial waterfall, Gold souk, Fountain lake and even a Metro link inside Dubai Mall! Must visit and requires one full day to explore this place. The entrance to Burj Khalifa At the top is also from inside the Dubai Mall. All the shopping lovers will surely love this mall.
A must visit!
